Tots & Teddies has partnered with Lekker Architects to design and custom build our centre, from the ground up. In 2014, Lekker was commissioned by the Lien Foundation to rethink the use of pre-school spaces in Singapore. In 2015, Lekker won the President’s Design Award for ‘Design of the Year’ for a Singapore preschool.
Our centre has been carefully designed to support character development and our thematic inquiry-based curriculum. As such we feature a semi-open classroom concept where children from different age groups can socialise and learn from each other. Semi-permanent fixtures create informal space-breaks, acting as learning centres and a show-case of the children’s work, while mobile wooden nooks allow children to get cosy with their favourite book away from the class area.
Our communal dining area promotes social development and also provides a break from the class environment, promoting the importance of food and meal time with friends. Our dining area also features a semi-open kitchen where children can pick up their food from a specially designed kids-friendly counter and interact directly with the Chef, and also return their plates after eating. We also feature a special plant-growing area for children to care for their seeds and watch their plants grow over the course of the term.
Indoor-play time is also an opportunity for imaginative play and rather than providing fixed play equipment, we blend an indoor treehouse with large mobile play blocks, allowing children to create their own special play space that changes every time they play. Our play area features a specially set-up padded play space for infants next to our front windows allowing them to build their gross-motor skills with safety.
